Cyclone Tracy struck Darwin on Christmas Eve in 1974, this cyclone was the biggest in Australian History. Cyclone Tracy killed 71 people and left countless people with injuries. It left 500, out of 9000, houses standing and cost Darwin over $800 million for the damage. Destroying many houses the cyclone left approximately 48 000 people homeless.
The most extreme part of the Cyclone was when the eye passed over Darwin. The wind force was powerful and the speed last recorded was at 217km/hr, before the tower got destroyed. With the eye passion over Darwin it also caused a torrential downpour causing major storms in Darwin.
